Pierce College
Olympic South Restoration

Lakewood, Washington

The Olympic South building at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom is 1970's construction that has undergone multiple updates and additions in its almost 50-year lifespan.  Our Design-Build team has undertaken the renovation of the entire three-story interior and portions of the exterior envelope of this concrete and steel structure.  This project provided an opportunity to meld existing structure constructed in multiple prior phases and evaluated using the existing building code with completely new programming to serve the needs of Pierce College.

Key features of our new construction include adding a new feature entry and a new standalone (i.e. seismically separated) elevator structure to create a more focal entry/exit from the building while also expanding access for students between floors.  The new entry and elevator will be located on the northeast side of the building, facing the student center, commons area and other academic buildings.

The Olympic South building houses the Early Childhood Education (ECE), College of Fine Arts, and an Extension Office for Central Washington University.

This project is currently in design, with construction to start in the near future.
